Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Sports Council (NSC) along
various other organizations organized a rally from the Dashrath Stadium
to Basantapur Durbar Square wishing for the success of the Beijing
Olympic 2008 on Wednesday.
The rally organized to start the 100 day countdown for Beijing Olympics 2008 boasted presence of Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang and Chinese
Ambassador to Nepal Zheng Xianglin. It passed through the major
throughfares including Sundhara and New Road before converging into a
corner meet at Basantapur Durbar Square. Different culture dances and
songs were also performed as part of the program.
Security had been thghtened fearing any obstruction from the pro-Tibetan protesters, who have been protesting against China’s direct rule in
Tibet since last several weeks. Luckily no untoward incident were
reported throughout the entire program.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Subash Chandra Newang Supported the Chinese government saying Nepal was always in favor of one China
policy and wished for the successful holding of the games. The Speaker further
expressed his best wishes to all the Nepali players competing in the
games.
“The Games carry a lot of importance as they promote peace and harmony throughout world”, said Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zheng Xianglin,
adding “the Olympic torch rally to Mount Everest will be completed by
mid May.”
Speaking at the program, NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan wished for the successful holding of the Games.
Also present at the rally were Chinese embassy officials, Chinese citizens living in Nepal, NSC officials, NOC officials, sports
personalities and players.
