The IOC Olympic Solidarity Course in Gymnastics was successfully conducted in Kathmandu from 28th October to 6th November 1999. This Coaches course of national level was conducted with the help of International Olympic Committee and jointly organized by Nepal Gymnastic Association and Nepal Olympic Committee. The course was participated by 26 Gymnastic Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Gymnasts of different parts of the Kingdom. All the participants were dedicated to the Course. Most of these Coaches who attended the courses are actively training the youngsters in different schools of the country. British Gymnastics Expert, Mr. Lloyd Readhead.

There is a growing interest in this particular sport despite our lack of the necessary facilities and experienced coaches who could train as per the up to date rules and regulations and techniques of Gymnastics. The attraction to this sport increased following the awareness that it could also be very effective base for other sports and many parents are encouraging their children to join this sport at a very early age. Although this lovely graceful form of sports is liked by lots of parents, the Chief Coach, Mr. Mukunda Nakarmi insists that we do not have the necessary equipment to uplift this sport at competitive levels. The other reason is that almost all our Coaches were trained in India at the Institute of Sports in Patiala many years back and they did not receive the required refresher courses for many years. The appearance of British Gymnastic Expert Mr. Lloyd gave them a good opportunity to clear their long existing doubts and modify their knowledge which all the participants took up with keen interest. Mr. Lloyd designed the Course in consultation with chief Gymnastic Coach to suite our participants. Though, Gymnastic was introduced 30 years ago in this country, the level of our Gymnastics is still in a very low level. Like other courses this course was also divided into two session and two parts: the theoretical and practical. The Course was conducted at the gymnastic hall at the Dashrath Stadium Complex. All the participants under took the course with great interest.
