Nepal is set to participate in an international ice skating competition for the first time, with six Nepali athletes competing in the Short Track Speed Ice Skating Competition to be held from the 12th to 14th of next month in Dehradun, India.
Bidding farewell to the team, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that Nepal’s historic debut in international ice skating is a moment of pride for the nation. He expressed confidence that Nepal has strong potential in this winter Olympic sport, citing the country’s favorable geography, and hoped that Nepal would soon win medals in ice skating.
The competition is organized by the Indian Ice Skating Association in collaboration with the Asian Ice Skating Union (ASU) and the International Skating Union (ISU). Two women and four men from Nepal will participate in various categories. Officials from the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association will also accompany the team.
