The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) successfully completed the 4th Lumbini International Peace Marathon 2026 at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lumbini, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and healthy living through sport.
The event witnessed outstanding performances from athletes of the Tribhuvan Army Club, who dominated the major categories. In the men’s full marathon, Binod Rokaya secured first place with a remarkable time of 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 55 seconds. His fellow Army teammates Sushil Kumar Shahi and Narendra Singh Raut claimed second and third positions respectively, completing a podium sweep for the club.
In the women’s half marathon, Purnalakshmi Nyaupane delivered an excellent performance to win the title in 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 10 seconds. She outpaced defending champion Santoshi Shrestha, who finished second, while Nisha Sarki secured third place—marking another strong showing by Army athletes.
The marathon also saw notable participation from international runners, further enhancing the global spirit of the event. Athletes finishing in the top positions across categories were awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates in recognition of their achievements.
In the supporting events, Dharma Maharjan won the veterans’ 5 km race, while Nageshwar Ahir of Nepal Police Club secured first place in the men’s open 5 km category. Youth participation remained encouraging, with young athletes competing in boys’ and girls’ 5 km races. A 3 km walkathon was also organized, promoting inclusivity and community engagement.
The event was organized by the Nepal Olympic Committee with the valued support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal.
The Medal ceremony was graced by Ambassador of Republic of China to Nepal Mr. Zhang Maoming, NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Vice President and Marathon Coordinator Ashok Bajracharya, along with other distinguished officials, who presented awards to the winners.
