Sport Leaders' Summit 2023

Sport Leaders' Summit Dhulikhel 2023 was completed on Saturday by issuing a nine-point Declaration.The program was inaugurated by Prime Minister Rt. Honorable Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).The two-day event, organized by the Nepal Olympic Committee, aims to harmonize the laws and regulations related to sports at all three levels of government in accordance with the spirit of sports autonomy in accordance with the provisions of the Sports Development Act, broaden the Olympic campaign by coordinating with all parties related to sports, and classify sports. It has committed to determine national priorities.

It is the first time that NOC has organized this kind of event.

Representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Social Development, National Sports Council, Provincial Sports Council, Nepal Olympic Committee and sports journalists participated in the program. More than 80 people from different fields of Nepali sports had participated in the program.

Similarly, provinces and local levels should determine their own priorities based on national priorities and develop sports as a whole, take initiatives for gender equality in Nepali sports and adopt policies to discourage sexual harassment, violence and betting in sports. He also said that he would demand for the training and upgrading of the manager, and he would demand the government at all three levels to build infrastructure according to the nature of various games at the federal, state and local levels.

 In order to improve the level of sports, it has also committed to demand the government to establish sports training institutes (Sports Academy) at the state and central level as well as Olympic Academy at the central level and take initiatives to free Nopali sports from banned drugs (doping).

The program was attended by state sports member secretary, president of various associations and sports journalists who are the leaders of Nepali sports.

Representatives of the International Olympic Committee and Olympic Council of Asia and those associated with Nepali sports presented on these issues. On the occasion of the event, NOC President  Jeevan Ram Shrestha presented on the priority of sports, Lok Bhakta Rana on Sports Act 2078 and Sports Law, Tilottma Kandel Basyal on sports physical infrastructure, Indra Gurung on sports and psychology and Dr. Saroj Krishna Shrestha on sports medicine and anti-doping.

Similarly, Mr. Govinath Sivaraja, Safe Guarding officer(IOC) Marketing and Media Manager NOC Sri Lanka presented on safety in sports; Mr. Eugenie Lee, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist on training needed for players, coaches and managers; Mr. Tony Tarraf, Head of Athletes Development Department and Special Projects on Olympic Movement (relation between NOC, NFS and Government); Ms.  Sheikh Hayat Al Khalifa, Chairperson of Gender equality Committee, OCA presented on gender equity in Sports.

During the virtual address, Prime Minister of Nepal Rt. Honorable Dahal emphasized that this type of program is necessary for the overall development of Nepali sports and said that coordination between the central and provincial governments is necessary for sports policies and programs.

On the same occasion, Minister of Social Development of Gandaki Province, Pancharam Gurung and Kumari Moktan of Bagmati Province emphasized the need for this type of program for the future.

   

Sport Leaders' Summit 2023 Declaration

1. The Sport Leaders' Summit 2023 was inaugurated by the Rt.Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) who thanked NOC for encouraging the sports world.

2. According to the provisions of the Sports Development Act, take initiatives to harmonize the sports-related laws and regulations of federal, state/provincial, and local government in accordance with the spirit of sports autonomy.

3. Expand the Olympic campaign by coordinating with all parties related to sports.

4. To develop sports effectively, national priorities should be determined by classifying sports. Provinces and local levels should follow suit and prioritize accordingly.

5. Taking initiative for gender equity in Nepali sports and adopting a policy to discourage sexual harassment, violence and betting in sports.

6. To improve in sports, players, coaches, and managers should be trained and demanded for improvement based on the priority of the game, from basic to national level.

7. Requesting all three levels of government to build infrastructure according to the nature of various games at the federal, state and local levels.

8. To demand the government to establish sports training institutes (Sports Academy) at the provincial and central level as well as Olympic Academy at the central level for improving the level of sports.

9. Initiative to free Nepali sports from banned drugs (doping).
